Time tables
What do you think of time tables? Well, I think it is funny, it tells you when to be where and what to do you you there, mostly, and it helps you work out what needs to be done when. However, I'm not sure that it is always used so effectively, what if time tables allowed to to just think about things, often you rushing to follow the time table that you are not clearly in the moment of that time table thinking of the content planned for that time, you just rushing from one point to another.
We if I think of work, at work they know I can only do one thing at a time even as I put preside on myself to do more than one thing, at a design job even running 7 different jobs, the client clearly knows I can one do one thing at a time, but at university I see us teachers wanting students to do many things in one time tabled slot.
So I ask u what do u think

At ETV, you have designers doing four different projects all at once. There are four designers stationed at ETV. Each designers work on various projects all at once as deadlines are usually spaced two days apart for each assignment to be submitted to the client once it has been approved by each department within ETv.There are 24 signatures on each design which is OK'd and then sent off. Each project or assignment has a job a job title which is given by the client. Once a job is complete , a system called Quickprint is used to insert the job details to the client. Once the details are filled in and checked thorougly by the designer, the job is then sent off to the client using a unique email system for ETV designers only. Lots of fun!Lots of responsiblity!
ReplyDeleteAt tech we complain sometimes about not having enough time to complete work, yet at ETV you obviously cannot do that,as anyone would know, time is money! And clients do not give extensions. At tech I feel we are given many assignments but discipline is key to finshing them off. They can be finished off within the given time frame. However, the environment at a university is different to a workplace. At university there are more distractions above anything else. At ETV there is discipline and commitment.I'm not saying people are not disciplined at tech,I'm just saying the chances of people getting distracted is more likely to happen whereas at ETV you have clients who seriously demand work to be done. Therefore, you are more prone to adapt to being a more disciplined designer and finishing work well within the given timeframe before work is submitted.
thanks for this, well at the writing work shop lecturers are debating if timetables are use correctly some students are lock in with no movement and every min is accounted for as the lectures want to keep them busy and at university, then there are others that have a fuul day with a subject but is has no structure and the lecture has a time table within a timetable running on his own time frame. These students may feel that spending all day with one subject is less productive as the entire day is not nice put out in a structured plan and often the lecture has no respect of students time and rocks up and want to teach when it fits him during that day, as the day had no clear plan what will be done and when. Also other lecturers were say time tables should include campus stuff so that students are developed holistically and part take in campus activities too. other were feeling that timetable are put together for staff and not student centered?
ReplyDeletei agree partially with the fact that " other were feeling that timetable are put together for staff and not student centered?".my cousins and friends at church have said so as well that lecturers only lecture students at their time when it is convenient for themselves. I think that lecturers want to continue their research by lecturing in a way that benefits them but also the student as well. I dont believe lecturers are selfish as they have to fully equip themselves with valuable knowledge before giving their lecture to students. I think if a new timetable was devised in a manner of a school timetable it would be better. Students can attend different subjects during the day and then finish off the work at home. I believe the university should allow adobe suite in the packages for students as part of the fees so they are able to work at home as well. At times being late at varsity is can be dangerous, as well even a distraction when trying to work when others are moving around and talking. If a school timetable is devised for design students, i can guarantee there will be less walking around and students will be more focused on the work and will prepare them beter for the industry.I believe in intensive learningas it prepares people for harsher conditions out there in the industry.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how a design company works with no internet, no printer, no scanner, and still rely on choral draw for design
